Privacy policy
How we collect, use, store and share personal information.
Last updated: [Launch date]
This policy applies to D&J's Civil Construction (ABN 54 605 884 080), referred to here as "D&J's", "we" or "us". It covers personal information we handle through this website and in running our business. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
You can browse this website without telling us who you are. If you send us an enquiry, we need a way to contact you so we can reply.
What we collect
The personal information we collect depends on how you deal with us. It may include:
- Website enquiries: your name, company, email address, phone number, the service you're interested in, the project location and any details you include in your message.
- Clients, suppliers, subcontractors and consultants: names, roles, business contact details, and information we need for quotes, contracts, invoicing, site access and safety records.
- People we may be able to help: business contact details such as name, role, company, work email and work phone, so we can introduce our services.
- Job applicants: if you apply for a role, your resume, work history, licences and tickets, and referees.
- Website use: technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and the time of your visit.
We don't set out to collect sensitive information, such as health information. We only collect it where it's needed for workplace health and safety or another legal requirement, for example after a site incident, and only with your consent or where the law allows.
How we collect it
- Directly from you, when you fill in our enquiry form, email or call us, or meet us in person or on site.
- From your employer or from our clients, when you're working on a project with us.
- From publicly available sources, such as development applications, company websites and business directories, and from business contact data providers.
- Automatically, through our website hosting provider, when you use this website.
How we use it
We use personal information to:
- reply to enquiries and prepare quotes and tenders
- deliver projects and manage contracts with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
- manage site access, inductions, safety and compliance
- send and pay invoices and keep business records
- tell business contacts about our services (see Marketing below)
- assess job applications
- keep this website running securely and improve it
- meet our legal obligations, including work health and safety, tax and licensing requirements.
Marketing
We may contact people at businesses and organisations we think could use our services, by email, phone or in person. Every marketing email we send includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can ask us to stop contacting you at any time using the details at the bottom of this page. We don't sell personal information.
Who we share it with
We only share personal information where it's needed for the purposes above, with:
- service providers who host or run our systems, such as website hosting, our enquiry and customer database, email and accounting software
- subcontractors, consultants and suppliers working on the same project, where they need it
- our insurers, lawyers, accountants and other professional advisers
- government agencies and regulators, where the law requires or allows it.
We expect our service providers to protect personal information and only use it to provide their services to us.
Storage outside Australia
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia. This website is hosted by Cloudflare, and website enquiries are stored in a database provided by Supabase in [Supabase region, e.g. Sydney, Australia]. Cloudflare and Google (which provides the fonts used on this website) may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. [Name any other countries where our email or accounting providers store data, or delete this sentence.]
We take reasonable steps to make sure these providers handle personal information in a way that's consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Job applications
If you apply for a job through our website, we collect your name, contact details, anything you tell us about yourself and your resume. We use them only to consider you for the role you applied for. Resumes are stored privately, and only the people at D&J's who handle hiring can open them. Let us know if you'd like your application deleted.
Our website and cookies
This website doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, to run the website securely. The fonts on this website load from Google's servers, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
To see how the website is used, we count visits anonymously. Your browser stores a random number (not a cookie) so we can tell new visitors from returning ones, and we record which pages are viewed, roughly how long for, the type of device, the website that sent you here, and whether you tapped our phone number or email address. This doesn't identify you, and it's stored in our own database. If you send an enquiry, it's linked to that visit so we know which pages people read before getting in touch.
Security and how long we keep it
We store personal information in secure systems. Access is limited to staff who need it, each with their own login, and information sent through this website is encrypted in transit. We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes above and for our business and legal records. After that, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.
Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, at any time using the details below. We may need to confirm your identity first. We'll respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days. If we can't give you access or make a correction, we'll tell you why in writing.
Complaints
If you think we've mishandled your personal information, please contact our privacy contact using the details below. We'll look into it and reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
